The PIM system from Akeneo allows merchants to manage product data centrally. To bring this data into a webshop based on Magento or Adobe Commerce, both systems must be connected. DELABYTE supports shop operators with the integration. Depending on the situation, we use either the Magento 2 connector provided by Akeneo or a custom-developed interface.
Akeneo PIM is software for managing product information (Product Information Management, or PIM). Akeneo offers the PIM Community Edition, a free open-source version of their product for small and medium-sized businesses.
Using Akeneo PIM aims to maintain all product information in a central location. By integrating with Magento, companies ensure that the current, sales-relevant data is synchronized with the online shop and that the data base remains consistent.
In some situations, it is not technically possible to perform a delta sync, i.e., import only changed and new product data into Magento. Our Akeneo module is specifically designed to efficiently bring the entire product catalog into Magento. In our test case, importing 20,000 products took around 20 minutes, while the standard connector on the same system took about 5 hours for the same amount of data.
To connect Akeneo PIM to Magento, Akeneo offers a pre-built interface – the "Akeneo Connector for Magento 2". This interface provides many configuration options and is continuously developed. In most cases, using this connector is the best way to connect the PIM system with the Magento shop.
In special integration scenarios, however, using alternative integration modules can also be effective. For example, DELABYTE has developed a Magento module optimized for fast and efficient import of all sales-relevant product data from the Akeneo PIM system. It is suitable for integration scenarios where a delta sync with the standard connector is not technically possible.
“Akeneo PIM and Magento are a widely used open-source combination. For a good integration, performance is crucial, as well as considering the merchant's individual processes around product updates.”
